Celebrating Pride Month at the Tucson J

The Tucson J is proud to be a place where people of all identities gather to learn, connect, exercise, and relax, promising a space where everyone feels comfortable being their true selves. Our JPride initiative is one example of our commitment to inclusion. Throughout the year, JPride offers programs specifically designed for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies, giving folks opportunities to connect and build community.

To celebrate Pride Month, the Tucson J and JPride will host a screening of the classic film, Yentl, on Sunday, June 21 at 2pm. Starring and directed by Barbra Streisand, this beloved film is a powerful and tender exploration of identity centered around a young Jewish woman who defies convention by disguising herself as a man in order to pursue sacred learning, raising timeless questions about gender, access, and belonging.

In the spirit of the film, gender-expansive dress is warmly encouraged, and after the film, community members will discuss the film and its themes of identity and gender.
