Galleries, Gardens + Memorials

Explore our spaces where art, nature, and community come together to inspire. At the Tucson J, our galleries showcase the vibrant work of local and national artists, reflecting diverse stories and culture. Outside, our peaceful gardens offer a place to pause, reflect, and connect with nature. Together, these spaces hold more than beauty—they hold memories. Whether you’re attending an exhibit, strolling through the Jill Rosenzweig Memorial Sculpture Garden, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, every visit becomes a part of something meaningful.

The Jill Rosenzweig Memorial Sculpture Garden, Garden of Hope, and Fine Art Gallery are open to the public during the J’s regular hours of operation. Tours with our curator are available by appointment. Please email curator@tucsonjcc.org to schedule a tour.

Call for Artists

Exhibition Opening: October 1, 2026

The Tucson J is seeking submissions of sculpture art, which we understand as three-dimensional art of any kind.  Art may hang on the wall using the J’s track system, rest on a pedestal (provided by the J), or be in a display case. Works should be suitable for an indoor environment. Artists may submit up to three pieces. Please note we will be judging the images attached with your submission to this form. Artists will be notified by early July if their piece(s) have been accepted. Submissions are due by May 26th.

Send all questions to curator@tucsonjcc.org.

Jill Rosenzweig Memorial Sculpture Garden

In 2009, the Tucson J established a Sculpture Garden to celebrate sculpture, foster tranquility, provide educational opportunities, and enhance community fellowship. Located in the heart of Tucson, it serves as a space where art and audience converge, encouraging visitors to relax, converse, meditate, and reflect.

The garden features over 50 sculptures by local, national, and international artists, ranging from a few feet to over 40 feet in height. Designed by landscape architect Ellen Barth Alster, the garden offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and provides a peaceful retreat within the city.

In 2022, through the generosity of her family, the sculpture garden was renamed The Jill Rosenzweig Memorial Sculpture Garden as a testament to her commitment to the Tucson J community and her relentlessly creative and philanthropic spirit.

An annual juried exhibition brings new sculptures to the garden on a temporary basis.

Application: Artist Application

The Tucson Jewish Community Center (the Tucson J) is accepting applications for SCULPT: A Celebration of Sculpture, an annual sculpture exhibition. SCULPT showcases local work in a variety of mediums, including bronze, copper, stainless steel, aluminum, granite, sterling silver, ceramic, fused glass, beadwork, and mixed media.

The application can be found at this link: Artist Application. If a new work will be fabricated for the exhibition, images of the design and/or maquettes must be included, but please note that we reserve the right to decline the work if it is not yet completed at the time of application. There are no entry or jury fees.

INDOORS IN THE J’S FINE ART GALLERY

The J’s Fine Art Gallery is home to a rotating showcase of fine art from local, national, and international artists, August through April. A public space, the Gallery welcomes thousands of people each week. This space has pedestals, a wall-hanging system, a locked display case, and floor standing.

Pieces may be submitted to the Fine Arts Gallery for inclusion during the run of the show, August 14th through September 14th. There is no honorarium for pieces shown indoors.

Sculptural pieces will be available for sale with 65% commission to the artist and 35% commission to the Tucson J. Artists may submit up to three entries. All indoor sculptures must be for sale and remain on-site for the duration of the exhibition unless sold during this period.

OUTDOORS IN THE JILL ROSENZWEIG MEMORIAL SCULPTURE GARDEN

The Jill Rosenzweig Memorial Sculpture Garden was established in 2009 over four spacious acres with a four-fold purpose in mind: to craft a public space that celebrates the appreciation of sculpture; to create an atmosphere of tranquility; to promote educational opportunities; and to enhance community fellowship. Today, the garden holds over 40 sculptures by local, national, and international sculptors, ranging from a few feet tall to over 40 feet in a serene, beautiful setting, providing a meditative environment within the city limits.

If a large-scale, outdoor installation is selected for inclusion, the artist will receive a $500 honorarium regardless of the number of pieces accepted. Accepted pieces must remain at the J for a minimum of one year or until sold. If sold, the artist will have the opportunity to present a replacement piece.

Applications should indicate if sculpture(s) have any special requirements regarding installation or maintenance.

ELIGIBILITY

This opportunity is open to all artists. We feature the work of both established and emerging artists and welcome work in a variety of styles. Work need not have a religious or spiritual theme.

SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA

Criteria for acceptance will include but are not limited to: artistic excellence and originality of the work; expressive and emotional impact; and, for outdoor submissions, durability and maintenance. The Tucson J reserves the right to reject any entry that does not meet the terms and conditions or is not suitable for display at our intergenerational, heavily trafficked campus for both the indoors art gallery and outdoors, desert community setting. Work must be of sound, safe construction and not fabricated or finished with hazardous materials.

INSURANCE AND TRANSPORTATION

For works selected for year-long exhibition in the Jill Rosenzweig Memorial Sculpture Garden, the Tucson J will insure the works from the time that they arrive until the time that they leave the premises. The J is responsible for the maintenance and safety of the sculptures. Should a sculpture require repairs during its exhibition, the J will consult with the artist before taking any action. The sculpture will be insured for the “insurance value” indicated by the artist. This value should not exceed the purchase price. The artist is responsible for transportation to and from the Tucson J and for insurance during the transport period. The J will arrange for a crane to be available for one day before and one day following the exhibition in order to assist with the movement of monumental pieces from/to a vehicle. Once on the grounds, staff will determine the final placement of sculpture.

PUBLICITY

The Tucson J will produce collateral for the exhibition and information on the artists and their works will also appear on the Sculpture Garden page within the J’s website. Each selected work will be exhibited along with a label with title, name of artist, and medium. The Tucson J has the right to photograph the sculpture for educational purposes, brochures and other publicity. In all printed materials, the J will make every effort to credit the artist. All copyrights remain with the artist. The J will host a public event on the closing day of the indoor exhibition—September 14, 2025.

APPLICATION

Application (all materials listed below) must be received electronically by the Tucson J. The application can be found at tucsonjcc.org/sculpture. You will need to submit:

  • Title, medium, size, date, and price of work
  • An artist statement of approximately 150 words.
  • Up to three (3) images of each entry (desired resolution: 800 pixels x 1200 pixels & minimum: 750 pixels x 500 pixels)

Shay-Shay Community Garden

Our Shay-Shay Garden is a community-centered place to grow fresh, healthy food and a commemorative space to honor community members who have passed away. A memorial gate displays names and dates on decorative steel leaves. Gardeners from our ECE and J-Care programs enjoy caring for the Shay-Shay garden as well!
A community garden consists of separate garden plots that are rented to individuals or families to grow food, flowers or ornamental plants. Gardeners may work together to organize gatherings or community work days but the produce they grow in their individual plots belongs to them. In addition to providing members with healthy food, community gardens have been shown to have physical, emotional and spiritual benefits. CGT manages 25 gardens throughout the City of Tucson and promotes community connections through gardening.
