Shavua Tov
As we stand on the threshold of Rosh Hashanah, we are invited to pause, reflect, and dream about the future we wish to create together. This sacred season reminds us not only to look inward but also to look outward—to ask how we can strengthen the bonds of community and create a more vibrant Jewish life for all.
The Torah teaches us: “Lo tov heyot ha’adam levado”, “It is not good for a person to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). Our tradition insists that belonging is essential to a life of meaning. At the Tucson J, we aspire to be that town square where everyone belongs and, as we like to say, some people join. It is here, in community, that each of us can feel seen, valued, and uplifted.
Rosh Hashanah is a season of hope and possibility. Just as the shofar’s call awakens us to renewal, we are awakened to the opportunity to build together—to strengthen Jewish life, to weave deeper connections, and to create a future filled with purpose and joy.
In the musical Oliver!, the song Consider Yourself joyfully declares: “Consider yourself… one of us.” That refrain captures the very heart of our mission that no one should feel left on the outside looking in.
In Hebrew song, Kol Ha’olam Kulo, Gesher Tzar Me’od reminds us that “the whole wide world is a very narrow bridge, and the main thing is not to fear.” We cross life’s narrow bridges together, sustained by community, by courage, and by belonging.
And with Bashah Habahah we look to the horizon: “Next year we will sit on the balcony and count the migrating birds.” This hopeful vision reminds us that the dreams we hold for tomorrow, dreams of peace, joy, and togetherness—begin with the work we do today.
May this New Year be filled with blessing for you and your loved ones. May it be a year when our community continues to grow stronger, more vibrant, and ever more welcoming. Together, with courage and with hope, we will create the Jewish future our children and grandchildren deserve.
Shanah Tovah U’Metukah—wishing you a good and sweet New Year.
