Shavua Tov 22 Adar 5785

Shavuah Tov

Together we share a deep commitment to fostering a vibrant community, I want to take a moment to reflect on the value of lifelong learning and the Jewish concept of limmud. The JCC Association Statement of Principles says “Jewish Living and Learning Sit at the Heart of the JCC”. At the heart of our J is a deep-rooted belief in the importance of continual growth, education, and the pursuit of learning.

The Hebrew word “limmud,” which encompasses learning and teaching, reminds us that our journey toward understanding is never complete. It is a guiding principle that encourages us to embrace curiosity, seek out new experiences, and nourish our minds and spirits. Lifelong learning is not just an individual endeavor; it is a communal one. At the J, Jewish life and learning are intertwined, and we thrive when we support one another in our educational journeys.

At the J, we offer a range of programs and classes designed to inspire learning at every age and stage of life. From cultural workshops to in-depth discussions on Jewish texts, we aim to create spaces where questions flourish and diverse perspectives are shared. Through our commitment to limmud, we can cultivate an environment that values intellectual curiosity and growth while fostering a sense of belonging.

As we move forward, I encourage each of you to embrace your role as lifelong learners, to explore new ideas, and to engage with our community in meaningful ways. Together, we can strengthen our understanding of Jewish life, honor our traditions, and instill the passion for learning in future generations. We should head the words of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Teach Your Children.

I have been thinking about a concept that resonates deeply within our tradition and community: “Hineini.” This Hebrew word, which translates to “Here I am,” embodies the essence of availability, accountability, and presence.

As members of the community, we often have opportunities that require not only our unwavering commitment to our community but also a chance to stand up. The concept of Hineini calls upon us to stand up, to raise our hands and voices, and to take action. It encourages us to be present not just in body, but in spirit—fully engaged in the needs and aspirations of those we serve.

As a community, we have a unique opportunity to show off our wonderful City and Community. By embodying the principle of Hineini, we can all work together to stand up and participate in the JCC Maccabi Games.

Let us commit ourselves to this important work. Together, let us embrace the spirit of Hineini as we maximize the opportunities ahead. By doing so, we demonstrate our dedication to each other and the shared mission we uphold. In the beautiful of Jonathon Larson z”l as the games get closer, our Actions speak Louder than Words

Thank you for your dedication to the J and our shared mission. Let us continue to inspire one another and enrich our community through the transformative power of education, learning, and participation.
