Shavua Tov
In this moment, when Israel and her people continue to face uncertainty, anguish, and profound challenges, we at the Tucson J reaffirm our unwavering support and solidarity with our Israeli brothers and sisters.
Israel is not just a place on the map — it is the living heart of the Jewish people, a symbol of resilience, hope, and the eternal connection that binds us across oceans and generations. As Jews in the Diaspora, our commitment to Israel is not defined by political borders or passing headlines. It is rooted in shared history, in sacred memory, and in an unbreakable belief in Am Yisrael — the People of Israel — and the promise of Medinat Yisrael, the modern miracle that continues to inspire and sustain us.
Just as important as our support for Israel is our belief in achdut — the deep value of Jewish unity. At a time when so much seeks to divide us, we draw strength from our togetherness. We may not see everything the same way. We may hold different perspectives, backgrounds, or beliefs. And yet, when we stand side by side — in respect, in purpose, in love for one another — we embody the very best of our tradition. The beautiful sounds of a community singing in harmony is wonderfully expressed by the Wallin Jenny’s in One Voice.
Our community is at its strongest when we work together. It is in that unity — not in uniformity, but in shared purpose — that we find resilience, hope, and the power to build a better future for all of us.
This is at the heart of our service pledge at the Tucson J:
We create community based on Jewish values by providing the highest quality programs and services in a safe and secure environment for all people of all ages.
That pledge extends not only to our neighbors here in Tucson, but to our extended family around the world — especially in Israel. Through our actions, programs, partnerships, and prayers, we strive to bring light where there is darkness and healing where there is hurt.
As we offer our support, we also lift our voices in Prayer for the State of Israel:
“Our Father who is in heaven, Protector and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the dawn of our deliverance. Shield it beneath the wings of Your love; spread over it Your canopy of peace; send Your light and Your truth to its leaders, officers, and counselors, and direct them with Your good counsel.
Strengthen the defenders of our Holy Land; grant them, our God, salvation and crown them with victory. Establish peace in the land, and everlasting joy for its inhabitants. Remember our brethren, the whole house of Israel, in all the lands of their dispersion. Speedily bring them to Zion, Your city, to Jerusalem Your dwelling-place, as it is written in the Torah of Your servant Moses:
“Even if you are dispersed in the uttermost parts of the world, from there the Lord your God will gather and fetch you. The Lord your God will bring you into the land which your ancestors possessed, and you shall possess it; and God will make you more prosperous and more numerous than your ancestors.”
Unite our hearts to love and revere Your name, and to observe all the precepts of Your Torah. Speedily send us Your righteous Messiah of the House of David, to redeem those waiting for Your salvation. Shine forth in Your glorious majesty over all the inhabitants of Your world. Let everything that breathes proclaim: “The Lord God of Israel is King; His majesty rules over all.” Amen.”
May our actions reflect our values, and may our voices, our prayers, and our unity bring strength to those who need it most.
I continue to think of the beautiful words of David Broza and share his wish for a better future Yihye Tov.
Together, as Am Echad — one people.
Cochenu b’Achduteynu | כחינו באחדותינו | Our strength is in our unity.
Am Yisrael Chai | עם ישראל חי
