Genealogy can only go so far in revealing family histories. Memories-our own, and those of our relatives-as well as historical research are also needed to make a family tree come alive.
This class will give you some tools for writing a vivid family history, drawing on such resources as family pictures, documents, and discussions with family members, and using such classic techniques of fiction as narrative arc and vivid dialogue.
Instructor Edie Jarolim started a family history blog, Freud’s Butcher (FreudsButcher.com), in 2012; it resulted in a talk given at the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna in 2018. She has a Ph.D. in literature from New York University and is the author of five books and hundreds of articles on subjects ranging from travel and restaurants to art and dogs.
