Let all who are hungry, come and eat!
Passover (Pesach in Hebrew) celebrates the Israelites becoming free from slavery in Egypt.
The holiday begins with a Passover Seder, a ritual experience that combines storytelling,
symbolic foods, a meal, and opportunity for reflection. Seder is Hebrew for “order.” We use the
Haggadah book (Hebrew for telling) as a guide to take us through the steps of the Passover
seder. The Haggadah includes the text, “let all who are hungry come and eat.” One explanation
for this text is that as a free people, we should work to ensure that those in our community do
not experience hunger.
