Bas-Relief is the form of sculpting that is closest to drawing. Students will use water-based clay to create a relief sculpture of a single pose. Great for ceramic students as a supplemental sculpture, as the resulting bas-relief can be fired and glazed. This is an excellent and easy way of combining figure with ceramics, which can be a challenge. Students will sculpt a relief using clay and a board as backing. The resulting sculpture will resemble a drawing that came to life, and will have a striking three-dimensional effect when viewed from the front.
