Early Childhood Education at the J

The Tucson J’s Early Childhood Education program embraces families from all backgrounds and cultivates a connection to Jewish values and tradition. Our play-based curriculum creates environments and experiences that nurture creativity, build confidence and skills, and encourage questioning minds. Children participate in a wide range of activities with a strong focus on promoting healthy eating and active living.

The J offers a well-rounded, full-day early childhood education program as well as customizable care schedules that best suit your family! We nurture a love of learning by providing opportunities that cater to the whole child intellectually, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

The Sheva Framework

Sheva (Hebrew for “Seven”) is an approach to learning rather than a steadfast curriculum.

Developed by the Jewish Community Center Association, the Sheva Framework is built on the belief that each child is unique and important, that using a Jewish lens reveals universal values, and that meaningful play is the work of early childhood.

Infant Care + Education

We welcome infants as young as 6 weeks and are one of the few programs providing infant care in Tucson. We reference the Arizona Infant and Toddler Guidelines, recognizing that young children need enriching experiences. Infants and their families find a “home away from home” in our infant rooms with dedicated staff. Not only does the staff nurture and meet the needs of your child, they are well-aware of the amazing learning that is happening as your child’s young brain develops. Teachers use moments of care and play to share language, encourage self-regulating behaviors, and build new skills.

Toddler Care + Education

Children between 12 and 24 months join our toddler program and enjoy increased activities and independence. Children anticipate activities and draw comfort from routine. In addition, they participate in a more focused program of specialists – music, cooking, and fitness.

Preschool Learning

For children 2 years and up, our program is a play-based, emergent curriculum and supports the Arizona Early Learning Standards. Our preschool day is focused on children’s interests and learning needs: encourages individual, small, and large group activities, indoor and outdoor play, free choice time, and learning centers.

The J believes in offering each child experiences to explore, discover, play, grow, and connect. At the JCC, you’ll find a wide array of developmentally appropriate, fun, and engaging classes for young children. We offer language, music, sports, cooking, dance, and more.
