Tiny Tots Tennis | Ages 3–4

Wednesdays, 3:15 – 4 pm A new introductory tennis program for our youngest future players! This program incorporates athletic skill development in addition to basic tennis shapes. In this stage of a child’s development, mastery helps set the right course for all future sports training.

Mighty Mites Tennis | Ages 4-6

Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:15-5:15 pm Players are introduced to the fundamentals of tennis through activities designed to build a solid foundation for long–term athletic development. Activities are focused on developing the ABCs (agility, balance and coordination) while forming the skills necessary to serve, rally and score. Use of red foam and felt balls.

Junior Beginners Tennis | Ages 7–13

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:15 – 5:15 pm Designed to help students enjoy this life-long sport by learning the fundamentals.  Each class has a weekly theme reinforced through drills, games and competitions that promote the fun of learning to play the sport.

Junior Advanced Beginners Tennis | Ages 8–13

Tues and Thurs, 5:15–6:15 pm For children who already have a good sense of the proper tennis technique and are beginning to develop control with ball placement, spin control and all court skills. Technical, tactical themes will be presented daily. Players in this level are able to play matches.

Teen Tennis | Ages 13–18

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:15–6:15 pm For teens who want to become better recreational tennis players. The class teaches the fundamentals of grips, strokes and footwork patterns in a fun and positive manner so that teens will enjoy the sport more as their ability improves.

Junior Tennis Academy | Ages 10–18

Mon, and Wed 5:15–6:30 pm, Fri, 4:45–6 pm An advanced tennis clinic for players with the potential or strong desire to play competitive matches. The class reinforces the individual player’s solid technical base with a daily emphasis on grips, strokes and tactical and technical skills. Focus is on preparation for tournaments and playing at the High School level.

A note from our awesome member, Vicki Velasco: "I started my journey at the Tucson JCC last May. I was 62, weighed almost 300 pounds and knew I had to do something to get healthy. I started small – mostly at the pool with my granddaughter! Last September I decided to work with a trainer, checked out the information sheets for three trainers and was fortunate to start working with Rhina Gerhauser.

"Rhina talked with me about my goals and helped me get going with twice-weekly 30 minute workouts. My second small step! I started feeling better, but was still only working out when I saw Rhina. In May of this year I went to the doctor and had a bit of a “wake-up call.” I was told if I didn’t make some changes, my only recourse for losing weight would be weight-loss surgery.

"The 100 Day Challenge at the JCC started the next week and I was all-in! I asked Rhina to measure me at the beginning and I committed to getting into the J each work day. Rhina measured me at the end of the challenge and I had lost 12.5”!

"Because I was coming regularly to the J, I started getting to know people and was amazed at the community I was discovering. So many people were encouraging and commented on my progress. I also started taking classes in addition to doing cardio and personal training. While I have a long journey ahead to reach my health and weight loss goals, I am well on my way, thanks to being at the J!

"I am excited to explore new opportunities like cooking and dance classes and the film festival as part of the new Passport program. Joining the JCC was just a beginning – being a part of the JCC community keeps me going!"
