Shay-shay Garden

Our Shay-Shay Garden is a community-centered place to grow fresh, healthy food and a commemorative space to honor community members who have passed away. A memorial gate displays names and dates on decorative steel leaves. Gardeners from our ECE and J Care programs enjoy caring for the Shay-Shay garden as well!

This is a Community Gardens of Tucson (CGT) and Tucson J collaboration.

What is a Community Garden?

Shay-Shay Garden

A community garden consists of separate garden plots that are rented to individuals or families to grow food, flowers or ornamental plants. Gardeners may work together to organize gatherings or community work days but the produce they grow in their individual plots belongs to them. In addition to providing members with healthy food, community gardens have been shown to have physical, emotional and spiritual benefits. CGT manages 25 gardens throughout the City of Tucson and promotes community connections through gardening.

With their CGT membership gardeners receive:

  • a 60 sq ft plot
  • drip irrigation on a timer
  • access to shared garden tools
  • a quarterly newsletter
  • monthly education meetings
  • a site coordinator
  • a community of gardeners

Contact CGT to get your name on the waiting list!

  • Monthly membership $18
  • Scholarships available
  • Plot sharing welcome

Cycle for Good is back! Join Laura Swenson and music with DJ Thoolan for a special 2 hour Spin ride to benefit The J Taglit Program.

Spinning wheels will complement spinning dreidels as the fourth annual Movement-wide stationary bike event called Cycle for Good takes off on Sunday, December 22, 2019. Thanks to staggered start times, many participants in Cycle for Good will ride indoor bikes at the same time in Jewish Community Centers across North America. Each JCC will ride and raise money for a charity of their choice.

Reserve your bike now for 8am, 9am or both for a suggested donation of $18!
