Shavua Tov

Shavua Tov

The heart of our mission at the Tucson J has always been this: to strengthen Jewish life by strengthening Jewish community. Not by separating ourselves, isolated programs, or independent efforts but b’yachad, together.

Few voices have shaped our modern understanding of Jewish Peoplehood more than Avraham Infeld, who teaches:

“Judaism is not a religion Judaism is a people. Our destiny is shared. Our future is shared. We cannot write it alone.”

That truth is felt deeply in our work every day. Peoplehood is not just an idea, it is practiced:

When families celebrate milestones and holidays here at the J

• When we welcome newcomers and ensure they feel they belong
• When partners across the community join forces for the good of all
• When we stand with Israel and with Jews around the world

We are part of something larger than ourselves, a story thousands of years old and still unfolding. And every donation, every hour volunteered, every program created, every connection nurtured adds a new line to that story.

Our partnership of donors, board members, leaders, community and staff is not transactional. It is covenantal. We show up for one another because Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh Ba’Zeh all of Israel is responsible for one another.

In the American folk classic Turn, Turn, Turn written by Pete Seeger reminds us that there is:

“A time to build up, a time to gather together…”

This is our time to build up, to gather, to deepen the Jewish future right here in Tucson.

And we sing it in our ancient language through Hineh Ma Tov:

Hineh ma tov u’ma na’im, shevet achim gam yachad

How good and pleasant it is when we dwell together as one.

That is our purpose. That is our privilege.

B’yachad we make Jewish life vibrant.
B’yachad we build a strong and joyful community.
B’yachad we shape a future filled with hope.

Thank you for your partnership in this sacred work for believing in what we can accomplish when we come together as one people with one heart.

With deep gratitude and in community,

Cochenu b’Achduteynu
