| Shavuah Tov This week we will mark Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut, I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound significance these days hold for the Jewish people and our mission at the J. Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, invites us to pause and remember the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who fought for our homeland. It is a time when we honor the fallen and recognize their courage and dedication, reminding us of the resilience of the Jewish spirit. This day unites us in grief and gratitude, acknowledging the struggles that have shaped our identity as a people. The Weintraub Israel Center, a partnership between JPSA and the J has put together a meaningful Yom HaZikaron Tekes on Tuesday April 29 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at the J. Following this solemn observance, Yom HaAtzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, allows us to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the State of Israel. It serves as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of our ancestors who dreamed of a homeland, and it celebrates the vibrant, diverse society that has emerged from that dream. It is a day filled with pride and hope, highlighting the eternal bond we share with Israel as part of our collective Jewish identity. Our community will celebrate on Sunday May 4 from 4:00 – 6:30, register HERE. Enjoy Megillat Haatzmaout by the Maccabeats. However, this year, we carry a heavy burden on our hearts as we continue to pray for the 59 remaining hostages. They are not just numbers; they are individuals with loved ones, dreams, and hopes for the future. As a community, let us hold space for their families, pray for the return of those who are alive to heal and those who have been murdered for proper burial, and advocate for their release. Our strength lies in our unwavering support for one another, especially during tumultuous times. In the days to come, I encourage each of you to take a moment to remember those we have lost and to celebrate the resilience of our people. Let us stand together in unity, reflecting on our shared history while committing to a future where peace prevails. Listen to a beautiful version of Acheinu by Cantor Rachel Brook. The JCC Association Statement of Principles reinforces this connection, declaring that Israel is the eternal birthright of the Jewish people. This principle links us to our past and ensures that Jews around the world today feel a sense of belonging to a rich heritage. As we foster community and connection within our centers, we also strengthen this bond with Israel, promoting an understanding of its significance in our history and lives today. As we commemorate these important days, let us remember that our work at the J and in our community goes beyond our local communities. We are committed to nurturing the ties that bind us to Israel and fostering a sense of global Jewish unity. Your continued support enables us to honor the past while paving the way for future generations to uphold these values. Let us together hope for more peaceful times with a song of peace, Shir Lashalom performed by Shiri Maimon. Thank you for standing with us as we celebrate our heritage and the ongoing journey of the Jewish people. Together, we can ensure that the stories of sacrifice and triumph are passed down and that our commitment to Israel remains strong.
