As many of you are aware, I am an enormous fan of musical theater. I was sitting the other day trying to see if my next trip to New York could include a chance to see Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years.

As I began to think about my message tonight, I realized that it was Five years ago today that we made the difficult decision to close our doors due to COVID – 19. While our doors were closed from March 15 to June 1, the activity and impact of the Tucson J did not and has not stopped.

As I reflect on the journey of The J over the past five years, it is vital to recognize the resilience and dedication that have paved the way for our current success. Since closing our doors due to the challenges posed by COVID-19, we have made remarkable strides in evolving and growing the agency, and I am proud to share how far we have come.

In August 2020 we began work on our strategic plan, which was approved by the Board in February 2021, the growth and impact of the Tucson J have truly been exponential. We have not only rebuilt our programs and services but have also expanded our outreach to better serve our diverse community. Through innovative initiatives, increased partnerships, and a renewed focus on the needs of our members, we have strengthened our position as a vital resource for health, wellness, education, and connection.

The Tucson J has also strengthened its mission to foster Jewish identity, community harmony, and resilience. Leadership efforts include creating meaningful partnerships and collaborations ensuring a purposeful and inclusive vision for the future.

As we look ahead, we are excited to anticipate the crescendo of hosting the 2025 JCC Maccabi Games . This prestigious event will showcase our commitment to youth engagement and community involvement while highlighting the vibrant spirit of the Tucson community. It is an opportunity for us to unite, inspire, and celebrate our achievements together.

Additionally, this Monday we are beginning the work of creating a new strategic plan that will inform our strategy and direction pointing us towards 2031. This plan will build on our recent successes and set ambitious goals that reflect our dedication to growth, inclusion, and excellence.

Enjoy two of my favorite songs by Jason Robert Brown, The New World from Songs from a New World and This Is Not Over Yet from the remarkable play Parade.

We are taught that A community is too heavy for anyone to carry alone Deuteronomy 1:10. I am grateful for all of the staff, colleagues, board members and the community who come together to help create and support our work.

Thank you for your unwavering support and belief in the Tucson J. Together, we have created a stronger, more impactful organization, and I am excited about what lies ahead.
