SECOND ANNUAL SCULPTURE EXHIBITION

The Tucson Jewish Community Center (TJCC) recently established an outdoor Sculpture Garden on its campus with a four-fold purpose in mind: to feature public spaces that celebrate the appreciation of sculpture; to create an atmosphere of tranquility; to promote educational opportunities; and to enhance community fellowship. In addition to the TJCC permanent collection and long-term loans of sculpture, an annual juried sculpture exhibition is designed to present works by local, national and international sculptors. The landscaped campus with views of surrounding mountain ranges lends itself to sculpture and evokes a meditative environment while still within the city limits. Arts and cultural programming are not new to the TJCC which boasts various cultural programs over the 20 years it has existed. Arts classes, early childhood education programs, an art gallery featuring temporary exhibitions of local artists and an extraordinarily popular annual Film Festival are just some of these programs.

Project Description
The Sculpture Exhibition will be comprised of up to 20 sculptures to be displayed on the TJCC campus. The juror for the show is Robert Knight, Executive Director of the Tucson Museum of Art.

The TJCC will make every effort to site each work to its best advantage in consultation with the juror and, when possible, the artist. Concrete pads will be available for some sculptures while others will be situated on concrete or brick walkways or on nearby patios.

Eligibility
This opportunity is open to all artists.

Selection Process and Criteria
The juror will review all applications and choose up to 20 sculptures to be exhibited. Criteria for acceptance will include but are not limited to: artistic excellence and originality of the work; durability of the work in a desert environment; and concern for maintenance and safety issues. If a sculpture consists of light and/or water features, the power must be solar as there are no outdoor electrical outlets available.

Artists may submit up to three entries, although only one may be chosen for the exhibition. All sculptures must be for sale and remain on-site for the duration of the exhibition even if sold during this period. There are no entry or jury fees. The TJCC will retain a 35% commission from all sales and will handle all sales transactions for exhibited works. Images must be on a clearly labeled CD (JPG file format of 300 dpi). The CD will not be returned. If a new work will be fabricated for the exhibition, images of the design and/or maquettes must be included on the CD. Insurance and Transportation
The TJCC will insure the works from the time that they arrive at the Center until the time that they leave the premises. The TJCC is also responsible for the maintenance and safety of the sculptures. Should a sculpture require repairs during the course of the exhibition, the TJCC will consult with the artist before taking any action. The sculpture will be insured for the “insurance value” as indicated on the Application Form. This value should not exceed the purchase price.

The artist is responsible for transportation to and from the TJCC and for insurance during the transport period. The Center will arrange for a crane to be available for one day before and one day following the exhibition in order to assist with the movement of monumental pieces to a vehicle. Once on the TJCC grounds, the sculptures will moved by the TJCC and, in consultation with the artist, will make the final placement of the work.

Publicity
The TJCC will produce a brochure for the exhibition and information on the artists and their works will also appear on a web page within the TJCC website specially constructed for the exhibition. Each selected work will be exhibited along with a weather-proof label with pertinent information on the sculptor and sculpture.

The TJCC has the right to photograph the sculpture for educational purposes, brochures and other publicity. In all printed materials, the TJCC will make every effort to credit the artist. All copyrights remain with the artist.

The TJCC will host a public reception with entertainment and refreshments on opening day, November 14, 2010.
