About the Festival
Mission
Through the magic and power of cinema, The Tucson Jewish Film Festival strives to promote the preservation of Jewish culture by providing an open and inviting forum for films with diverse Jewish themes that would not otherwise find a place for public exhibition in the southern Arizona marketplace. The Festival encourages cultural diversity, intellectual growth and dialogue within the audience it serves by providing a forum for films that challenge long-held assumptions and stereotypes. We hope to serve the widest possible audience with easy access in Jewish culture by taking advantage of the cross-cultural power of film's creative expression.
Welcome
We have put together a wonderful line-up of diverse films that are sure to have something for everyone. The Film Selection Jury considered over 120 titles, screened more than 65 of them and assembled the final program of 26 for this year’s program. It has been a year of very hard work by a team of exceptionally dedicated volunteers. Our 2010 program includes provocative cinema, hidden gems and fascinating stories that will not only entertain, but also challenge stereotypes and enrich understanding.
Also included in this year’s program is the 2nd annual Fabulous Faygeleh LGBT Film Festival. The LGBT film series features insightful cutting-edge cinema that wrestles with contemporary issues and universal themes of faith, love and social justice. It is a “must” for anyone who loves great cinema. The Fabulous Faygeleh series will screen January 30 and 31 at the Crossroads Cinema, the weekend following the main festival’s run at the JCC.
It is no surprise that this is a challenging year for arts organizations everywhere. In order to keep our ticket prices as low as possible and to assure that our films are available to the widest possible audience, we rely heavily on the generous support of our many faithful patrons, in-kind donors and volunteers.
And, finally, thank you to our loyal audience. It is for you that the staff of the Tucson Jewish Community Center and the volunteers of the Tucson International Jewish Film Festival work so hard throughout the year to present this unique Southern Arizona cultural experience. Without your loyal support and attendance, our screen would forever be dark.
