It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 19th Annual Tucson International Jewish Film Festival. This year promises to be the best ever with award-winning films and special guests to entertain and enlighten your movie-going experience.

We’re offering films that you won’t see anywhere else. These films will not only entertain and inform you, but also provoke thought and discussion long after you leave the screening. We’re excited that you’re here and invite you to experience all that the JCC Arts & Culture Department has to offer the community.

Francine S. Deutsch

We are pleased to sponsor the 19th Annual Tucson Jewish Film Festival in honor of our mother, Francine S. Deutsch.

Fran was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Belle and Sam Deutsch, on August 6, 1938. She moved to Tucson in 1945 with her family. Fran graduated from Tucson High School in 1956, attended the University of Arizona, and later wed Marvin Hyman. They had three children.

Fran was actively involved in various Tucson groups and committees including Tucson High School alumni activities, Tucson Desert Caucus, and Tucson’s Jewish community. Fran was an accomplished bridge player and recognized as a Double Diamond Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League. Her passion for Tucson life included a love for the Arizona Wildcats and Mexican food. She held season tickets to Wildcats basketball for more than 30 years.

Fran was a devoted friend to many; as the Tucson community grew, it never outpaced her familiarity and her determination to engage everyone she met.

Most recently that determination led to her serving on the committee for the Tucson International Jewish Film Festival which gave her the opportunity to view and engage in debate over which films would be chosen for the festival.

To that end, we present the 2010 Tucson International Jewish Film Festival in her memory.
